By the 1890s an the Hoboes had taken to the american railroads, hitching rides throughout the country. Separate from tramps or bums, these “Knights of the Road” chose a life of wandering, working as needed. Quincy, illinois was no stranger to Hoboes, being a railroad hub in the area.
