Harry Middleton Hyatt - Folklore Historian With Chuck Scholz
We've spent a few season picking random numbers and telling you about the folklore from our forefathers and foremothers of Adams County, but what about the man behind the book? In this episode learn about Harry Middleton Hyatt, Not only was Harry a Episcopalian priest, but he had a lifelong interest in folklore both Adams County centric as well as the Hoodoo practices of the American Southeast. He published multiple books in his time including Folklore from Adams County, Illinois as well as a the 5 volume collection on Hoodoo called Hoodoo, Conjuration, Witchcraft, and Rootwork among other genealogical books on his family heritage. Harry was a man of contrasts, prim and proper at the pulpit and not afraid to penetrate the deepest ghettos of the South to get first hand stories on Hoodoo. We talk more about Harry with a man that actually knew him; returning guest, former mayor Chuck Scholz.
